What was supposed to be a regular road trip, turns out to become a nightmare. Based on a true story, a group of five young friends went out to check out a grave yard due to hearing reports on people going grave robbing to see a family grave. After they check out the scene to make sure everything is okay, suddenly one-by-one each of them begins to disappear. What happened to them? This is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Alright, being completely honest I am giving this movie two skulls. For this movie actually being based on a true story, it was a lot better than most movies I've seen based on a true story, but still not that great. One reason I probably like this better than most movies based on true stories is because this movie had a serial killer and it wasn't paranormal where it seems even more fake (the paranormal movies just seem to have too much extra effects and unrealistic things). At least with this movie it wasn't a killer coming back from the dead over and over again, Leatherface the killer was just a really messed up guy who did really sick things.
Now, because this was a true story, the storyline actually did make a lot more sense. Basically there's this group of five friends, and they go to a grave yard because someone has been grave robbing and they wanted to check a family grave to see if it got robbed. Luckily it didn't, but then as they were traveling to some house to stay at, on the way they get a hitch hiker who seems really weird. Well, he definitely is. He slices his own hand, then cuts one persons arm, and then they throw him out of their van. After that they get to the house and they're all relaxing and having fun when suddenly people begin disappearing and someone has been killing them. At the end of the movie, only one girl survives and she is definitely relieved.
The movie did have suspense, because it was based on a true story so throughout the whole movie I was trying to figure out who was going to make it out at the end of all of this. One thing I definitely didn't like about this movie was that there was one girl in the movie and when she was running away from the killers she would not stop screaming. Honestly, screaming tells the killer exactly where you are, so I thought that was pretty stupid. This movie for me was definitely was a movie where if someone asked me to I would watch it again, but if I have an option to I most likely will not.
The effects of the movie were okay, the acting was alright but I have seen better, and there wasn't really any background music so I can't rate that. For some this movie may scare you because it is based on a true story and it is kind of gory. For me being a gore lover, I didn't think it had a whole lot of gore, but there was a little bit of gore. Overall I would say if you want to see a realistic horror film, this is one to watch. For me I wasn't a huge fan of this movie, but it wasn't horrible horror. Everyone has different opinions so for some people you may really like this film. For me I've never been a huge fan of films that are based off of true stories, but that's just me. I would say if you like a little bit of gore, and want to see a more popular horror film (even though it was made in 1974) then this is one for you. I say basically there's better films out there besides this, and there's worse. Just make the choice on if you want to watch it or not.
